What's an Ishin?
Ishin Pens is named after the Meiji Ishin or Meiji Restoration (明治維新), the catalyst for Japan's transition from a feudal state to an industrial power. While Japan was industrializing, manufactured goods and industrial equipment, like fountain pens and the machinery required to manufacture them, were imported from abroad, inspiring the likes of Kyugoro Sakata, Ryosuke Namiki, and Syunichi Nakata to found their pen brands Sailor, Pilot, and Platinum, respectively.
Our Story
Like how the Meiji Ishin restored the emperor to power in Japan, we restore quality (albeit used) fountain pens to working order whether they're Japanese or from elsewhere and provide them at reasonable prices.
Our Philosophy
We at Ishin Pens believe that every pen has a story, whether it is that of the British made fountain pen that inspired Kyugoro Sakata to make his own and eventually found the Sailor Pen Company, or that of a pen that survived the conflagrations and carnage of a world war, or that of a pen that was carried around the shirt pocket of an office worker during the post war boom. Do you want to be a part of a pen's story?
